Xavier Marti obtained his PhD in Materials Science in 2010 for his research work in spintronics. While working at UC Berkeley, he boosted IGSresearch in order to use spintronics-based technology from the nanoscale up to geophysics. The devices manufactured by IGSresearch are installed nowadays in numerous locations from South America to Eastern Europe. He is co-author of over 80 scientific publications cited over 2000 times, and holds patents as either co-inventor or co-owner. In 2013, he co-founded the incubator Penyalab at Universitat de Barcelona. He is enthusiastic about science dissemination and a TEDx speaker who has engaged over 35,000 followers in the web page "Magnets Solve Problems".
